658716 2008-05-18 22:56:00 the orginal error is typical of corrupted registry . MS has info on how to recover the backed up registry so you can reinstall it .

if your getting a blue screen you may have a hardware or software fault that could have cuases the origanal problem .

what does the blue screen messsage say ?

658717 2008-05-18 22:59:00 At what point did it bring up the BSOD ?

Depending on when this happens it can either be a hardware problem or still damaged software.

What is meant to happen is you load in the XP CD, follow through the instructions - and when it locates the old install, removes the basic windows OS, leaving all the data alone, then reinstalls windows.

I have a customers PC in the workshop right now that is VERY badly corrupted, it goes right through till booting after the repair install, and then crashes again - time to format/start again with a fresh install.
