365600 2005-06-21 23:02:00 Got myself a DVD drive with OEM windows XP Home from there. nothing good or bad to say bob_doe_nz (92)
365601 2005-06-22 02:14:00 Good for the feedback. I will be more careful now.
PP is good at Wgtn, Newlands. I took the bus the other day and saw the store. We dealt with them via the net and getting them to free courier it to us. A monitor, no probs. Not the cheapest vs the Auckland guys, but better than Ascent. Both are in Wgtn anyway, Ascent in the CBD, PP in a residential suburb. Looks like a small shop, with frosted windows or curtains.

The Auckland shops are good thou if you can get in there even if you do live a fair bit away but you can obtain some transportation. They are cheap without a doubt.

365602 2005-06-22 11:27:00 This quote is taken from my trade agreement I have with them, as listed on supercheap pc's online store .

“All products received by us with proper addressing are tested, the next day, for the fault described by the customer and any other that we may pick up . These tests are carried out in a systematic manner and may take between 1-3 days . Once the fault is detected we try to repair it or replace the product (at our descretion) and the product sent back to the customer in NZ .
I did ask the Ministry of Consumer Affairs how long it is reasonable to wait for a repair before you can demand a refund on defective computer components . The unsatisfactory answer that I got was that a reasonable time was how long it would take another retailer to repair or replace the same fault .
So, how long is a reasonable time?

365603 2005-06-22 11:55:00 Up to two weeks for this kinda thing usually.

I had a mate have his laptop shipped back to Taiwan, motherboard diagnosed as faulty and replaced, all within 7 working days

365604 2005-07-16 09:00:00 Super Cheap has no customer service at all! would not support them ever again.
Bought a CD/DVD writer some time ago, good price then. It developed a probem after 4 months, took it to them to fix as it was still under warranty. They said they would contact me when it is ready, would take about 3 weeks. After 4 weeks I contact them. it was not ready - sent to the supplier. Would be back on Monday, Tuesday still did not have it. Tried again the next week, not ready yet. This been going on now for over 5 weeks never ending story, never fixed or there. After wasting hours going in to them, waiting to be served then not getting it back, I just gave up - learned a good lesson here. Bought myself another DVD writer from someone that I know gives a good service. I'll rather pay $10 more and have a good product with good service!

365606 2005-07-16 10:48:00 Complain to the guy who runs pricespy.co.nz.

He seems to have them on his "keep an eye on them" list.

Personally, it probably isn't worth buying stuff from them just to save a few
$$$. Also drop a line to Fair Go.

I did. Well without mentioning the name. He and I had a little discussion on "dodgy". He seems to think being a registered company, being GST registered, having contact details on the webpage makes a site non-dodgy.
And PC Gear Akld used to be one of the ones showing up on Pricespy as well.

Thats why Pricespy annoys me a bit, well, people recommending everyone goes off there to look for a shop - because 90% of the time Supercheap comes up first or even in the whole list.

365609 2005-07-19 05:59:00 . . . Thats why Pricespy annoys me a bit, well, people recommending everyone goes off there to look for a shop - because 90% of the time Supercheap comes up first or even in the whole list .

Are we going to have another "bash Pricespy" session? Pricespy provides a service . Free . You don't have to use it . It gives the advertised prices for various parts . The lists are compiled automatically by computer . That process occasionally gets "interesting" results because there is no human intervention to spot ridiculously low prices because they aren't prices; rather a price difference between configurations . Pricespy can't recommend a shop . It can't (without risking expensive consequences) warn you off shops .

What you get from Pricespy is a guide to prices . It's up to you who you buy from . You are given the links to look at the actual pages the prices come from . It's your money . You are the one making the purchase . If you want your hand held while you do it, pay more .

No retail operation can afford great service and great prices . If your sole buying criterion is price, don't expect top class service, .

Caveat bloody emptor applies .
