| 658797 | 2008-04-15 00:07:00 | I recently did a overhaul of a IBM A20m Laptop for a friend. The hardware was good just the WindowsME OS was in a sorry state. I removed the hard drive and used an adapter to save all his files to my PC. Then I reinstalled it back into the IBM, reformated the drive and divided it into 2 partitions with Partition Magic. and reloaded WindowsMe and all the programs and drivers. Now it works great, except for one annoying thing. Every boot up brings up the new hardware wizard with unknown device. I have been through all the possibilities with the Device Manager search for drivers etc. Problem is, there is no clue as to what this unknown device is. Has anyone any ideas how to solve this problem.Ian | i-gordon (962) | ||

You've put all these drivers on? www-307.ibm.com I would actually install Windows 98se rather then ME, but that's up to you, and weather you have disks available to do that... |

| 658801 | 2008-04-15 02:23:00 | wratterus Thanks for your help. I have been to that page before and checked out most of the drivers. I have also updated the bios to the latest. and also the IBM PC Doctor. I have run most of the relevent tests. It seems to me that there is'nt any unknown devices, just that the OS thinks there is. Could even be a registry problem. Any other ideas? Thanks Ian |
