366828 2005-06-24 14:08:00 This is the somewhat twisted and hard-to-believe story (www.washingtonpost.com) of Oprah Winfrey visiting the Hermes store on the Rue Faubourg Ste-Honore in Paris. It's best to read it from the Washington Post before the bullsh*tters and the other idiots read into it what they want.

The story is that she wasn't let in. The explanations are that she was black (from Oprah's side) and that the store was closed (from the store's side). It is not that we should believe one or the other - who cares about rich people and the crassness of conspicuous consumption?

366829 2005-06-24 21:24:00 I smelled a hoax but it does look legit.

Money = power. Always has, always will, especially if the person is famous, mega-famous. Hermes caters for the rich and the worker who would not open the door for Oprah should be sacked. Personally, if I was the worker, I certainly would have let her in, and not just because she was rich and famous but because Oprah does so much good for others. (Well, let's see if I wrote enough for Metla to pop in here with a witicism - LOL!)

366830 2005-06-25 04:44:00 And money and power have a way with twisting the truth.

And who do you think is doing the twisting? Well, I am assuming Hermes likes to make lotsa money and keep it's name in bright lights. And I am assuming they are smart enough not to piss off a major American celeb, and thereby causing a huge, profit-eating ruckus, by making something of her colour. The truth is going to matter very much to Hermes.

Oprah, on the other hand, has little to lose if she accuses Hermes of being un-colour blind. She has a show with salivating admirers the world round. The truth isn't going to make her any money, or get her a $6000 handbag.
