Both Xtra jetstream and eftpos are down in Christchurch.

Lets hear it for Telstra Cable!!

Man cut one cable and 1/2 the country blacks out...Actually it was two cables. 6 cores each. One running up the west of the country, one running up the east.

The east was cut yesterday and under repair at the time the west was cut by a post hole digger.

And typical of Xtra was the advice that nothing was currently wrong with the service when I phoned them to see if they were responsible for my lack of connection...When did you ring them. They may not have known what the problem was at that point.

Telecom too prroud to buy a little emergency bandwidth off the oppisition?

Sometime midafternoon, after being offline for a couple of hours at least. Long enough for them to know the problem and inform clients honestly.
