1425953 2016-09-12 09:35:00 Avast, I'm done with you .
I put up with your constant popups trying to upsell to paid version..OK they need to make a living
I looked the other way with the bogus popups for Avast system optimisers & such other rubbish
Its at to the stage I cannot recommend Avast to anyone, simply because of Avasts popups , popups getting worse & worse , verging on scareware.

But now they are no better than malware
I start up Chrome today & had a warning from Chrome that Avast had added the "SafePrice" addon. What the very bloody heck :badpc:
This is on a Manual/custom install of Avast with most options unticked, AV only . Now they sneek this crapware into my Browser .

Im done, I'll get a ESET lic from work . At least ESET can be trusted

yes its crap that has no place on a AV program

1425954 2016-09-12 10:16:00 Not at all surprised. Its been getting more and more like malware actions for a while now. Maybe they need to get some money back since they brought out AVG ;)

Heres What I'm talking about (press.avast.com)

1425955 2016-09-12 21:06:00 I've been running Avast on a couple of PCs for a year or more now and can't recall getting more than 1 or 2 popups in that time. Avira on the otherhand used to do what you're describing, so I ditched it. autechre (266)
1425956 2016-09-12 22:31:00 :devil See you all bag defender/mse for being hopeless but it works invisibly in the background and does none of this :devil

I've been planning on getting a 3 PC licence for NOD32 for my 3 machines for over a year now, but then I carry on having no issues and not buying it :)
It's going to take an actual problem to make me change my ways.

Here's my opinion on the best Free solution:
Use windows defender or MSE (depending on your windows version)
Learn and practice some common sense browsing/ E-mail reading habits to avoid getting Malware
Always pay attention when installing software and read the options/untick stuff
Run a Malwarebytes and NOD32 free online scan every month or 2 (Neither has found anything worse than the Ccleaner installer in over a year)
For ultimate safety save a system image every time you finish the monthly scan and all is ok.

This way has no popups and no nagging to upgrade

On average , MS have a terrible past record for their consumer level AV products , going back many many years and different MS av software .

MSE , yes it has a rubbish detection rate. One of the worst, on average over the years.
But if we are honest, so does every AV product out there, even NOD . They simply cant keep up with new, zero day viruses .

Its a matter of picking the better of a bad bunch of AV products.

1425958 2016-09-12 23:19:00 I have run Avast Pro for years and have experienced no, none, nada difficulties ever!!

If you are too tight to spend a few dollars, don't come on here and b1tch :(

1425959 2016-09-13 00:25:00 My reason for not using Defender or MS Security is that for some reason they both insist on scanning the software when launched. With large applications this can be very annoying. You can exclude problem programs from it, but I find that Avira is a very good alternative. Occasionally it sends a popup giving a reason for getting a pro version but a small price to pay for a free, good product. mzee (3324)

So you are officially endorsing Avasts malware like activities. Good for you . Keep giving them your money.
Dodgy behavior where they trick less than PC savvy users into paying for crap addons , or trick the elderly into paying for free AV . yes, that happens ,often .
using scareware tactics to con people into paying . So you endorse this

Spending a few $ is irrelevant. I can get ESET for free (from work) . Its dodgy behavior Im btching about
I also btched about Norton & McAfee past dodgy behavior (behavior that got them $100K fines in the US), do you endorse that behavior as well. or should I just pay for their product and shut up ?

1425961 2016-09-13 00:56:00 Some friendly advice for those with the Paid Avast product...

consider disabling the auto-renewal , auto renew allows Avast to auto charge your CC every year.
especially if you decide you dont want to renew, disable auto renew well in advance (look in their forums to see why ) :-)

I've seen this mentioned before but I've never experienced any such issue with defender, or maybe my system is just too fast for me to notice.
