1425928 2016-09-11 23:02:00 Sometimes when my PC has been operating for a while and I attempt a restart there is 1 long and 3 short bleeps.

The PC is still working but no picture. Then if I leave it for and hour (after turning off) it starts normally. Any thoughts please?

1425930 2016-09-12 00:25:00 Well, that beep code for AMI BIOS indicates a memory problem, but it could be graphic card issue too. It sounds like it's temperature related so dust build up could be causing it.

I would take the side off the PC and give it a good dust out (preferably by blowing, but if careful, suck the dust out with a vaccum cleaner and using a small brush - gently). Then reseat your ram sticks and graphic card. Check other connections are all good while you're at it.

1425932 2016-09-12 08:41:00 How long before you Reboot and what BIOS? B.M. (505)
1425933 2016-09-12 09:07:00 Many thanks for replies. I will concentrate on the video card. There has been quite a bit of dust around lately, so I'll try a good blowout and reseat first. Randolf (75)
1425934 2016-09-13 08:53:00 Probably the computer has been on for an hour or two before rebooting. BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. Version 0501. Date 21/8/09 Randolf (75)
1425935 2016-09-13 10:32:00 Looks like you've never updated the BIOS,

You're 3 yrs / 14 BIOS updates behind. 0501 was the first BIOS. The last one was from 2012. P7P55D EVO BIOS 2101 (www.asus.com)

1425936 2016-09-13 23:16:00 As you notice I haven't done this before! Questions: 1.Is it essential to do? 2.Is it safe to do? 3.Would I need to go through all 14 updates and load or is the last one cumulative? 4. Would the lack of BIOS updates be a possible reason for the original problem?
Thanks.

1425937 2016-09-14 00:10:00 1. No

2. There is a risk ... can brick the motherboard, done it myself once :crying ... with the problem you're having I wouldn't attempt it just now

3. No, just flash the latest one

4. I very much doubt that it has anything to do with it, but I could be wrong.

After you've gotten rid of the dust in your PC (I do this once a year myself, usually early summer) I think you should do a Memtest. Takes some hours to run the memory test thoroughly but it would certainly let you know if the memory is faulty.
