1422765 2016-07-08 03:44:00 After doing the beds, 3 loads of washing, the vaccuming and the shopping I come in to find a major ant infestation. (Again)
Right round the lounge walls, into dining, round the corner into pantry - all over fridge, microwave, walls, floor - everywhere!

Had to spray then wash half the house, empty pantry etc and clean.

Grrrr......

Damn things nest within the walls and nothing I have done will eradicate then, short of ripping the walls off to get at the nest.
Perhaps I could import an anteater....

1422767 2016-07-08 04:21:00 When I sprayed for cockroaches with BV2 surface insecticide back in the late 80's we had no crawling insects in the house for many months afterwards. We were also sweeping up dead cockroaches daily for almost a week.

It's possibly overkill but might be worth a try if it's as bad as you say. Personally I haven't had ants inside for years but always managed to get rid of them with trusty old neverong ant killer.

That's if you can still find it, seems it was banned recently www.epa.govt.nz All the good poisons get banned for some reason......

Tried it.

The problem is, and I've read a lot on it, you have to kill the nest. Baits don't get eaten by all the nest, and thus the queen - or even a new queen, recreate it.

I'd have to access the nest - a bit of an expense involving builders.

1422770 2016-07-08 07:28:00 Omg, that's what nightmares are made of! I have used Kiwicare No more Bugs Super for Cockroaches and Whitetails. There must be one for ants surely. As you say though, you've got to get it right into the nest. Is there some kind of ant bait you put down that the scout ants carry back to the nest?

1422771 2016-07-08 07:35:00 the other method is to go for a very slow killing bait. that way they take it back to the nest and spread it through the colony and satellite nests. tweak'e (69)
