| 1425964 | 2016-09-13 05:24:00 | So you are officially endorsing Avasts malware like activities. Good for you . Keep giving them your money. Dodgy behavior where they trick less than PC savvy users into paying for crap addons , or trick the elderly into paying for free AV . yes, that happens ,often . using scareware tactics to con people into paying . So you endorse this Avast Antivirus Was Spying On You with Adware www.howtogeek.com Spending a few $ is irrelevant. I can get ESET for free (from work) . Its dodgy behavior Im btching about I also btched about Norton & McAfee past dodgy behavior (behavior that got them $100K fines in the US), do you endorse that behavior as well. or should I just pay for their product and shut up ? :badpc: Which part of my comment could you NOT understand? |

| 1425965 | 2016-09-13 05:35:00 | :devil See you all bag defender/mse for being hopeless but it works invisibly in the background and does none of this :devil I've been planning on getting a 3 PC licence for NOD32 for my 3 machines for over a year now, but then I carry on having no issues and not buying it :) It's going to take an actual problem to make me change my ways. Here's my opinion on the best Free solution: Use windows defender or MSE (depending on your windows version) Learn and practice some common sense browsing/ E-mail reading habits to avoid getting Malware Always pay attention when installing software and read the options/untick stuff Run a Malwarebytes and NOD32 free online scan every month or 2 (Neither has found anything worse than the Ccleaner installer in over a year) For ultimate safety save a system image every time you finish the monthly scan and all is ok. This way has no popups and no nagging to upgrade+1 I have only used Defender/MSE for years, and I have never had an infection. Mind you I also practice safe internet so I guess my risk level is fairly low. |

Most of the time the only real difference between the two is the Paid ones you may not get the "extra's" bundled with it. The free ones --- Well you get what you pay for- or more to the point you get more bugging adverts and extras -- Someone has to pay for the software - With the only exception That I know of being Microsoft's Defender simply because they don't have a consumer class paid one, only a business class bundled in Microsoft System Center. Which ironically looks a lot like defender ;) | wainuitech (129) | ||

I have stuck with MSE for years and it has never popped up an ad or an extra, and to-date I haven't had any infections. I screen all emails in Mailwasher while still on the host server, practice safe surfing, stay well away from any dodgy content, think before I click, avoid hubris, and don't let anybody near my keyboard unless supervised. That seems to be sufficient at this stage. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

MSE, (the older version, not the one on W10) while better than nothing is not much better, with MSE if it did stop anything it would generally either do it during a scan or after the damage has been done. Seen plenty of customers computers that only used MSE and riddled with infections. Your safe browsing /usage habits is more than likely what's saving any problems. You Billy are properly the are one of the few who are the exception to the rule, many people just click what ever flashes, glitters "just to see" and end up with problems. |
