1425158 2016-08-30 06:00:00 OK, OTY, I'm way out of my depth now. :D

7386 Sector wise the drives good. If a drives got bad or reallocated sectors that program will show them when a lot others wont.

The slowness, going by the report from chkdsk, could be simple old age in the drive or corruption / Windows bloat.

1425159 2016-08-30 09:00:00 Thanks Lawrence, this is actually the third opinion and they all suggest there is nothing wrong with the Disk the way I read it. Mind you, I'm just going on the overall comments made by the various programmes because I don't understand the Technical Reports.

Not bad sectors, but that message "Problems occurred between the communication of the disk and host 1701 times" is a likely culprit for performance issues.

1425160 2016-08-30 10:20:00 Problems occurred between the communication of the disk and host That message can mean theres a contact problem between the HDD and the sockets it plugs into. Could be dust build up, so simply removing the HDD, blowing out the sockets and put the HDD back may fix it - may not either.

Had that the other week on a old vista laptop. It was suggested by one other Person who knows all about computers the Laptop was dead as the drive was clicking and wouldn't boot  Quite simply the HDD had moved slightly, pulled it out cleaned it, and put it back making sure it couldn't move again :D good as gold now. ( as good as Vista gets anyway)

Yes, I looked at that too but then in bold it says "No Actions Needed".

I've just checked and that count is still 1701 so maybe that problem occurred years ago.

In the meantime we still have these event viewer problems and the computer is still slow.

Beats me. :badpc:

given its vintage , I'm not too surprised. XP was a bit more susceptible to slowdown & issues requiring reloads
It may need a re-install, it may need a new faster HD, could be malware, could be too many programs running in the background etc etc

run msconfig . Disable everything (as a test), reboot & see if thats any better
disconnect from internet , reboot & see if thats any better
install malwarebytes & run a full scan

make a new user profile (add user) , login as that user & see if any better (as you had profile errors)
