| 1422775 | 2016-07-08 09:42:00 | We have had great success over the years with 'Raid Liquid Ant Killer' which attracts the ants then kills them in their nest. We had another massive infestation a few weeks back and the queue to get to the poison was frantic (as usual) but it was all over in three days. What we like about RLAK is that the ants carry their dead back to the nest and after 2-3 days there are usually just a few stragglers to wipe up (too weak to carry their dead anymore) and the crisis is over. I usually put the poison in plastic milk bottle tops and at two or three locations along the trail, that's all it takes, and if they get too weak, I put a single drops along the main route just to help the little fellas get home. The main nests were outside under cobblestones and Mortein Ant-Sand was useless. Best results come from putting the poison at a common focal point where the swarm is most numerous, then just a drop or two on other trails if they appear. I know it works, because Mrs T starts to feel sorry for the little varmints after the mass slaughter! Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Place them on the ant trail and the poison is taken back to the nest. After about 10 - 14 days the numbers of ants were heavily reduced and I haven't seen any now for months. I can't remember the name of the poison, but it was at Countdown in a flat pack of (I think) 3 small trays of the stuff. I have also had the best results in getting rid of Gisborne cockroaches (the big black suckers) by spraying the crawling insect spray all around windows and doors where they got into the house. We have those aluminium windows that can be latched a wee bit open and I think they had been used to getting in there. Each morning for some weeks after spraying only once I found half dead roaches lying on their backs under the windows. I haven't seen any for a month or so. |

As the experts say: "If theres anything you need to know about defeating a bug infestation in your home, it is that most of your efforts will be futile unless you destroy the nest itself. This similarly applies to an ant infestation. Even if youre constantly killing or warding off the occasional ant trails with insecticides or homemade ant killers and youre thinking Hurray, Ive killed off at least a hundred of these buggers!, the truth is that there will still be tens of thousands of these bugs well and alive in their colony just waiting to swarm the next crumb of bread that you leave out in the open. Plus, a single ant queen can spawn out thousands of eggs every single day, so its essentially an endless battle if you dont do it the right way. The only way to overcome this infestation is simply to wipe out the entire colony." All the various baits have done is keep them at bay for a few weeks, then it starts over. |
