1484590 2022-03-20 03:36:00 It was not Winston Churchill who declared war on Germany - it was Neville Chamberlain.

Churchill did not become the Prime Minister for some months later.
Neville Chamberlain had been to Germany, and came back saying that Hitler was a charming man, and had assured him by saying that he had no intention of attacking Britain. Churchill declared war on Germany.

But one thing Chamberlain did my signing he agreement was buy time for England to rearm and he did declare war on Germany when Poland was invaded by the Krauts.

Two friends I have known for over 50 years and I would sooner have the Croat by my side than the Pom if it came to a stoush.

Since Poms are those English who were exported to Oz and not the ones who stayed in England I am not surprised.

No this was a Professional Pom, optician during WW11 and was refused active service because he was involved in the making of precision optics for telescopes and binoculars.

He was also pretty high up in Kitchener's boy scout movement, on the humanity side of things.

Came out to NZ in 1960.
