1484943 2022-03-13 23:36:00 I've got friends ordering tesla model 3s. 9 - 12 months for delivery psycik (12851)
1484944 2022-03-13 23:40:00 I just bought my step mother a new Mitsubishi Cross Eclipse PHEV- She drives out to Takapau every morning at 2AM to work in the freezing works from Napier then drives home, what a trip to do 5x a week. It cost just over $50k with the upgrades.

She uses the EV Mode on it to drive 3/4 of the way and then it switches to gas for the rest of it. On gas it sorta charges the battery, but she can charge it at the works and then come home the same. Has cut her gas bill down far enough that over it's life we expect it to come out cheaper, not by much though.. She also uses the battery around town when doing shopping or errands, basically has to fill it once or twice a month, which is a huge improvement from 3-4 times every 2 weeks.

As petrol is continuing to creep up (they're saying it'll hit $4/L and who knows when or if it will significantly come back down) it starts to make more sense I guess but hey- she's just thrilled with the power you get from the electric motor and how nice it is to drive.

Gee, that's a 180Km return journey. I wouldn't like that. But that's when an EV woud be economical!

1484945 2022-03-14 00:06:00 There's a lot of nyah nyah articles now from EV owners sneering at petrol costs.

For the poor, there is no choice. You cannot buy a cheap EV and that's $3000 or less.
You cannot afford the battery replacement.

So you suck it up and pay for petrol.

Ignore the battery replacement myth, I've never heard of anyone having to replace a battery. That's what ICE drivers spout to make them feel better, along with the BUT YOU MINE FOR BATTERY COMPONENTS (yes but they're not burnt you morons, and can be reused)

But I agree, no there isn't one for $3k Tee absolute cheapest I think is a leave that might get about 50-100km and that might be $9k.....and even that might be rising due to demand.

1484947 2022-03-14 00:11:00 Neighbour just bought a new RAV PHEV, Waited 9 months for it :(

It was them buying it made me think about it.

Ken

Didn't think that the RAV 4 came as PHEV in NZ only normal hybrid. The do sell a PHEV RAV 4 in the US called the RAV 4 Prime if you can find a dealer with one.

1484949 2022-03-14 00:25:00 I need a SUV as I have real problems getting in and out of cars. The Suzuki is good for that

Then why get rid of it? 6 years and 30,000 k's is not an old car.

Yes I remember seeing that article. At present on the Toyota NZ website there are no new RAV 4 hybrids for sale with a price listed . Some 2nd hand ones mostly in the SI.

1484952 2022-03-14 01:41:00 As I said, there is a 9 month waiting list . Not only cars . Neighbour over the road has a large RIB boat and his wife bought him a new Mercury outboard motor for him as a Christmas present (as one does, lovely girl!) . . . . . . . Had a 11 month wait for it . Another neighbour, who owns a boat shop (and supplied the aforesaid motor) says he has an 18 month customer wait list for new boats . Our son, who does compressor installations and servicing says they are having a hell of a time getting new compressors in from overseas .

It's all a problem .
