We were told those stories late in his life. But, he said, there was the humourous side to it as well. But he told us enough to put us off ever going to war. I lent him my copy of "Hitler, my part in his downfall," by Spike Milligan. He loved it and said that the humour was very true. "If you didn't have a laugh you'd go mad.":D |

I spent 27 years in the military half of it overseas and have a box full of medals but not in combat as I fixed helicopters. I spent 6 months in East Timor we were in a fortified camp where would be court martialed and sent home if we caught without a rifle by our side including sleeping having a **** or shower. I saw the results of the Indonesians and militia attacks and have stuffed rotten bodies in bags. Soldiers should never refuse to fight and there is only one field punishment in all armies a bullet in the head by an officer. |

Politicians invent the reason for conflict and convince their population that they must take part to save themselves and their families and that they have to go along with it because if they don't they are evil people and only the leaders know what is right and how to save them . The leaders are never going to be in any danger and lose their own lives or income . That only happens to those who have to take part . It is all about politics when you dig into it . Does this not remind you of anything else going on in the world? |
