| 1484415 | 2022-02-20 18:53:00 | Thank you for that, Ken. Very interesting. I have passed it onto a couple of train enthusiast friends. I wondered what the three or four flashing lights were for alongside the line. Great viewing.:) |

| 1484418 | 2022-02-21 04:23:00 | thanks Ken, stunning scenery. Strange not to see smoke from the house chimneys along the way. Super efficient wood burners or different types of heating there I guess. | bellbird (6169) | ||

Ken The sign for the horn is a yellow diamond shaped sign with a horizontal line and sometimes with a vertical line as well. I only remember seeing one level crossing and I don't think that had any sign. Interesting to note the few false tunnels over the line to stop the avalanches blocking the line. There are similar false tunnels on the Kaikoura coast line which are there to stop rocks falling down the hill hitting the trains or blocking the line. Those tunnels have a name for the type of tunnel but I can't remember what the name is. Anybody know? |

| 1484421 | 2022-02-22 05:29:00 | I often wondered if the roading engineers ever looked at them to the Manawatu Gorge? Could have precast sections which could have been craned into place then backfilled. There is only a couple of places that was constantly slipping down onto the road. Ken |

Ken Perhaps the difference is that there is an alternative to the Manawatu Gorge whereas there is no alternative to the Kaikoura Coast. |
