2008-04-18 12:00:00 My windows xp system / pc is extremely slow, have de fragmented etc, Task manager is showing System idle process running at approx 88%. Is there a way of fixing this without forking out lots of money or no money at all ? gnl150362 (13643)
2008-04-18 12:08:00 Maybe do a spyware/adware and anti virus scan if you have not already, and download ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and run to help clean up... kahawai chaser (3545)

2008-04-18 13:05:00 isnt that normal for system idle to be around 88%? or even 90? Term_X (560)

System Idle is when the CPU is doing nothing so the higher the better.

2008-04-18 22:06:00 System idle process is supposed to be a high number unless the PC is using a lot of it's CPU power, mine usually sits 95-99% in Windows. The_End_Of_Reality (334)
2008-04-19 01:52:00 Yeah it is the exact opposite of what the other processes do. System Idle shows how MUCH you have to use. trinsic (6945)
2008-04-19 02:17:00 yeah, you want system idle process to be as high as possible! :D Agent_24 (57)
2008-04-19 07:49:00 So CCleaner did help! beeswax34 (63)
2008-04-20 04:57:00 90% is still bad, 99% is the norm if you aren't doing anything. Run checkdisk and then scan your pc with nod 32. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
