| 659834 | 2008-04-17 23:59:00 | A friend brought her new laptop around last night and it was working fine with my broadband connection on both wireless and lan cable. I installed winrar on her computer for her to open some downloads and now both firefox and internet explorer cannot access the web, "the page cannot be displayed". I have uninstalled winrar in case that was the issue and used system restore to take the settings back two days and it still cannot access the web. The laptop shows that its connected to the internet and router and my computer shows its connected. XP is also downloading updates in the background and I was also able to get her nortons internet security to update online but the web is inaccessable. Any ideas? | stutank (13595) | ||

I'd still remove Nortons, - I have seen it hundreds of times when the Internet stops or email stops its Nortons playing silly buggers, even though it appears OK, and settings look correct. Had that yesterday with a customer, she had some other some tech around, he charged her for 1.5 hours work trying to fix the problem and couldn't, she called me and I removed Nortons and bingo every thing went perfectly. Then I installed some real antivirus / Firewall software. |
