Sex Pistols played fast rock and roll, only thier singer was without musical talent, but John Lyden/Rotton made up for it with enthusiasm, something that was lacking in the music of the time. Because of this, punk gave the music industry a well deserved kick up the backside. What you say about sid AKA John Simon Ritchie is true, but he was not the bassist on the records, just a worthless junkie self destructive stage prop. There were some gastly punk bands, some were still fun, some were just gastly. Certainly there were many things that evolved from the simplicity of the original punk scenes that came to have no resembalence to where they started. Wire is one band that comes to mind whose later music was complex and spacious, bearing no resembalence to 12xu, one of the first songs the released. In November i will be bringing down Wellingtons Flesh-D-Vice to play in CHCH for "punkfest". That bands been round 20 years! sheesh! They are not without talent. There are many exeptions to your generalisation. |

Of course technically, the Pistols were a group, but not in the sense that they made decisions about their music, their shows, or any media blitz . As with the Monkees, they were pieced together by canny manipulators of youth that had something exact in mind . While it's true that neither band would have taken off without some talent . You quote was cut and paste from where? I just done the same to your text, doesn't make it correct however . You could say the same about nearly every band that has released music . Record Labels very rarely allow a band to release what THEY want to put on their album . For record companies its all about compiling a track list that will sell . In this sense and according to you, aren't all bands then just complete untalented sell outs? Beside, Punk is nothing but weak metal played without skill . If thats the case why are you not out playing weak metal without skill and making a fortune? To add to this, "Punk" is defined not just by the way the music is played but also the style and attitude associated with the punk scene . By the way personthingy, what date is Christchurch "punkfest", haven't been to a punk concert since i seen guttermouth last . |

| 367548 | 2005-06-30 04:43:00 | Can't say I know of any punk bands that have made a fortune, The Sex Pistols being the most famous sold 1 million records, it took 20 years to reach that figure and I can't imagine the hired hands saw much of the proceeds . Plus the fact they burnt out so quickly, I bet they made more from their cash-in tour a few years back then they have ever recieved in bthe 2 decades prior . As for how they band was formed, That is well documented, That is the story of teh Sex Pistols . Say it ain't so all you want, I can find plenty of sources that confirm it, even the members of the band themselves . Punk is a fashion scene for crap bands . Muhahahahaha . |

We're still organising dates. Punk is a fashion scene for crap bands.I'd have to say there's a truckload of metal bands in "antichch" as they like to call it, who wear a uniform. Every scene has its fashion "sense" including the long hair or shaved steriotypes of the got to wear black metal brigade. Every gendre has crap fashion victim bands. EVERY GENDRE. It's pathetic, but it's accross the board. |
