2005-06-29 04:57:00 | I will still stand up and say that violence against women for sexual gratification, or any any other capacity, is wrong. Like it or lump it but that is my opinion. I'm not sure that anyone has disagreed with you on this? I can't think of anyone that would disagree, other than rapists that is.

2005-06-29 05:16:00 | Punk, which began about 20yrs ago was born out of governmental rebellion and lets not 4get Rage Against. Brave enough to bash on the Government...pffft, that sooooo yesterday! It was 1976 when Malcolm MacClarens media "punk" band the Sex Pistols come into the limelight.... Thats closer to 30 years ago. before that there were all the hippy bands protesting about something-a-rather and generally going against mainstream thought. Anti govt is nothing new. So punk is 30ish, and probably older when you consider that the Sex pistols were just an unusually fast rock-n-roll band with a vocalist modelled more on Iggy, or the New York Dolls than anyone else. The only thing the Sex Pistols did that was new was thier timing, by that i mean that they chose to be rebelious at a time when music was getting very tame, and like hundreds before them, they got noticed, and with Malcolms help they became flavour of the moment to all the rebelious youth. The Sex Pistols were also lacking political agenda. It was some of the "punk" bands that followed that had any agenda more substantual than just "anti" Notably Crass, and Tom Robinson Band. Both examples were considered offensive, Tom Robinson for thier pro gay pride and workers rights stance, and Crass for thier general stance on everything, including losing much of thier English audience for making a song and dance about the Fauklands, and Englands attack on those islands. Pointing out the wrong doings of "them" always is popular, but pointing out the wrong doings of the home team went down like a cup of cold.............. Not that there is any comparisn between SOAD and those that risked thier neck such as Crass. While SOAD do make some very valid points in a way that appeals to Jo Yobo and might actually get Jo to think ( OK that's asking too much) They are largely motivated by shock value, and the desire to sell to the youth market that sees themselves as cool and rebelious for listening to them. As for Rage Against... Jokes on the audiance i'm afraid.. I just about wet myself laughing at the Big Day Out some years ago when Rage got the whole crowd to sing along with "**** you, i wont do what you tell me", just like the band told them to. O such webels! It amazes me how many still don't get the joke. Anyway.. Just my opinion, laced with a little musical history....

2005-06-29 05:24:00 | Britney SpearsBritney very much belongs in this thread... after all if your a 10 y/old wannabe fashion victim, Britney seems like Mecka. I can think of a couple of old girlfriends daughters who thought this way. | personthingy (1670) | |
2005-06-29 05:32:00 | He is unable to comprehend that the song in question isn't about glorifying rape and violence. I comprehend many things Josh. Did you actually read my post? Therefore a mere subject is beyond discussion because even uttering the words is endorsing the sin? That's not what I said and you know it. You think a song denouncing humen sufering used as entertainment (snip) is itself to offensive to be allowable? Again, that's not what I said. You haven't bought into the recantation or de-sensitizing theory have you?

2005-06-29 06:02:00 | Well as a soon to be 22 Year Old, I can say that SOAD is definitely not my cup of tea even though many of my generation would listen to this sort of ... well to say music is overdoing it... Trollop is more like it. But then again I was raised old school style and as such I like to listen to old school music e.g Beatles, Bee Gees, basically easy listening music that wont offend anyone... :2cents:

Of course, and hookers are a packaged girl group who rode a religious wave. Right up their with Nuns.... And for personthingy, Rage did back up their lyrics in regard to their rebellion. Their Wall Street rebellion in "Sleep now in the Fire" was pure genius. Perhaps you were one who sung "F*%k you" at the Big Day Out, if not, why not? To rock out to rage would be priceless! |
