367515 2005-06-29 01:31:00 The music is still there, try getting hold of a Black Label Society album, probally the most hard hitting shred fest available that still retains the Rock n Roll vibe.

The latest release "Mafia" is the easyist to find in NZ, though the one before is probally better (Blessed Hellride)

a MUST BUY (or download) :D

367517 2005-06-29 02:19:00 The less people that listen to crap the better, if no one listens to crap then less bands will produce crap! Have you listened to the state of the radio stations and tv music channels? Crap after crap after crap!

No chance of nasties regarding Iron Maiden, they rocked hard back then and they rock hard now. But if you are looking to flame me, go nuts on the following "crap" bands. Some mentioned earlier,
Linkin Park, new Limp Biscuit, Mudvayne, Good Charlotte, Blink, (any new punk is abysmal crap), Rasmus, most "The" bands, anything after 2003 with black americans singing (pop, r&b, hiphop etc), the list goes on and on, oh and especially the Rolling Stones. (Puts on Flame retardant suit and jumps in the pool)

Bring back 80's rock with 10 minute guitar solos!

You're forgetting something Veale.

All music is crap!*

I still listen to music almost 24/7 though. As do other people. It's still all crap in its own way though.

367518 2005-06-29 02:20:00 Rap music sucks
nu-metal sucks
everything on the radio sucks

Which leaves me with 80's metal and stand up comedy...thank god for Chris Rock.

Very informative comment.

Regarding the other comments, perhaps im bitter! Part of my view arises from a musicians point of view. Have played the guitar for a good number of years and recognise the hard work and skill required to achieve good music. Most modern bands predominantly regurgitate the same chord progressions and beat, producing an overload of "same old, same old" music. Any chump (SAOD :D ) can grab a guitar and belt out a power chord or hit a drum, only with practice can you play, listen and appreciate great music.

367520 2005-06-29 03:04:00 Their earlier albums were not too bad, but like most 'modern' bands they seem too have sold out and gone mainstream.

MAINSTREAM!!!??? I don't hear britney spears singing about choking chicks, and protesting the war on iraq!

Besides REM, SOAD are the only band I know of, brave enuff, to bash on the Govt...

Mainstream... pffft...

Dear God..... I guess someone had to bring Britney into this! For obvious reasons Britney is not going to sing about that (ie: Target age group and pure lameness to mention a few)

My previous statement regarding regurgitation of music stands. Bands "brave" enough to bash on the government have come and gone a long time ago. Punk, which began about 20yrs ago was born out of governmental rebellion and lets not 4get Rage Against.

Brave enough to bash on the Government...pffft, that sooooo yesterday!

367522 2005-06-29 04:21:00 This is what happens when someones musical knowledge is restricted to mainstream, they think thats all their is,and the slighty edgier stuff is as hard as it gets.

Like people who think Good Charlote are punk, Lmao, Power Pop in a corperate punk package...

367523 2005-06-29 04:37:00 soad are all "down with the govt" and "save the rainforest".

If you listen to some of their other lyrics, it all about how stupid it is bombing iraq etc, and all govt conspiracies etc, one of the songs off the new album is all about how people that go to work in hollywood get treated badly.

It doesn't matter how you dress it up, the lyrics are still crass and the band still present an anti-social image. Note the popular reaction to the linked lyrics in this thread (pressf1.co.nz) - I'm not the only person with this opinion, I just happen to be vocal.

Vinref hit the nail on the head earlier, the phrase is there for shock value to generate controversy, publicity and sales. SOAD wanted to sing about 'choking chicks' and that's what they did. I view the last verse exactly like I view the recantation of Galileo in 1633, i.e. convenient.

Whichever way you look at it, it's still sick and I am more than happy to stand up and protest against the use of violence against women for sexual gratification, especially in an entertainment capacity (or any violence against women for that matter). That is what this song is, it entertains the listener by singing about 'choking chicks'. PM me if you have to, to keep this thread clean, but I don't accept this as normal, as other posters appear to have.

I agree with the de-sensitizing comments made earlier and we should get this sort of rubbish off our TV's and airways. It is songs like this that add to the de-sensitization process. My acronym wasn't intended to be agro but the point still stands, that whatever e-bullying a certain poster wants to throw my way, I will still stand up and say that violence against women for sexual gratification, or any any other capacity, is wrong. Like it or lump it but that is my opinion.

367524 2005-06-29 04:43:00 Therefore a mere subject is beyond discussion because even uttering the words is endorsing the sin?

You think a song denouncing humen sufering used as entertainment (granted they are doing much the same by incorperating it into their song, catch 22) is itself to offensive to be allowable?

This is why we have sickly sweet pop music for the masses.
