368547 2005-07-03 07:20:00 As anticipated in WFTWE, a pretty scranny performance by an elumbated bunch of Poms.

Outstanding performance by the ABs though, but it'll be hard to maintain that standard for next week.

Cheers

368548 2005-07-04 08:12:00 What a game. I thought the Lions did well but all blacks (plus a bit of help from Fiji etc) played out of their skins and look the best team in the world by a mile at the moment. Can't wait for the tri nations (and perhaps some close games).

The only thing really disappointing about the games so far is that there's been a hint of nastiness from both sides (more than you usually see in rugby tests)...hope the 3rd test will be a bit cleaner as the constant stop-start ruins it.

Nice to see so many Kiwis graceful in victory(**cough**). Sir Clive may not be the most popular man right now, and the Lions may not have given as good an account of themselves as they should have done, but I think the Lions can be proud of their supporters who have gone about their job in a graceful and jovial manner, as usual. I can tell you right now that, had it been the ABs on the end of defeat, you would see a hell of alot more knives being thrown around (just think of that semi-final in '99). I hope you kiwis have learnt a thing or 2 about support and get behind your team a bit more (win OR lose) - you may actually win the world cup soon. Imagine the ABs playing like that with 30000 delirious supporters behind them - the Aussies and Springboks would get a hiding!

368549 2005-07-04 12:59:00 There are too many South Islanders in the Abs, but they'll still win by at least 15 points.

boy youre a lucky guy I didnt see this earlier
At least............ South Island Rugby Stadiums you can't use to bake a cake in :D ( oh gaad Murray from the breezy city)

It was a good game I hope the AB's keep the presure on for the third and the lions roar instead of purring

Balls. The AB's will be back up at them with a scoreline close to or even better than the previous tests.

The Lions are good, but they're simply outclassed, both team-wise and man for man.

The ABs will no doubt finish the job but The Lions will always roar...

368552 2005-07-09 06:35:00 Gotta feel for the Lions tonight - their nations produce some of the world's great players, but they've been compromised by a symphony of inadequacies, both on and off field, and both within their team and their management during this tour.

At the end of the day I'm grateful they made the tour, and the spiritedness of a lot/most of their on-field game in the face of dibilitating assaults from us, has been enough for me to respect them.

368553 2005-07-09 06:47:00 There is some talk of providing the Lions with machine guns,I reckon that will even things out.Lets see how good th AB's are then. Cicero (40)

368555 2005-07-09 16:17:00 Maybe more of the "respect" & less of the crowing..?

("Better to be humble in defeat" is all very well. Sometimes that's better in victory...)

I'd like to congratulate the visiting Lions supporters for their overall good humour in the face of several catastrophes for their team.
They've met people all over NZ & created a good impression with their good humour & enjoyment of the tour.

The so called "Barmy Army" seems to have been more of an advertising slogan than reality (Many visitors deny an association with that name) and the visitors down here have not only behaved much better than the locals, but could show many of them how to enjoy themselves without getting plastered during/after the game.
They've been simply nice people, who seemed to recognise that although their results were disappointing, it wasn't the end of the world - and tomorrow was another day.
They've been tactful when faced with our lot crowing about victories & moaning about Clive Woodward, Alistair Campbell et al.

I'd like to think a similar bunch of NZers could create such good PRO overseas on a rugby tour.
Sadly, today I'm not sure that they would. It's all got too nyanaaanyaa...yes, we won... schoolkids in the playground.
I agree with whoever suggested we try it with the round ball experts... and see how we get on? Might teach us something.

(And in case you're wondering, I'm not anti-rugby. I was brought up by a rugby fanatic who had no sons. So, as his oldest daughter obviously couldn't be the All Black he wanted, I had to do the next best thing - listen to the reminiscences & follow the games with him.
It took me 10 years to get over the force-feeding once he died, but then I did get back to it)
