That's right, 5 times, in the context of: "Its a violent pornagraphy choking chicks and sodomy the kind of **** thats on your TV" No it's not. What channel are you watching? 'Choking chicks' in the context of violent pornography is not a typical nights TV viewing. Well in my randomly chosen night of enduring someone elses TV while i rebuilt a horrible computer with XP one woman died as result of violent crime, several as the "good guys" went to save.. um something, and no end of death, allthoungh, no chicks were choked to death. I don't know which channel, but try any cop, war, news, or hero type show. They all seem to have violent death as frequent theme, often to the point that it becomes a casual event. I don't choose the channel i watch, it chosen for me by those i visit. I don't have a TV or get newspapers because i 100% agree that they are a negitive medium. I have to disagree with your comment Metla that "They take what is accepted as norm and spread via the media, paint in black and white then display it to the listener." I don't accept 'choking chicks' as the norm. It is not normal 'behaviour'. Does anyone disagree with that? Read any paper, watch any news show. There may be a possitive item just for variety, but the bulk of it is about who'se died horrificly, and other "wrongs" in the world. The band have entertained the listener with the lines 'chocking chicks' 5 times and in the dying lyrics say 'turn off your TV' - this hardly promotes not to 'choke chicks'. It could be seen as a lame attempt to appease censors & lend some half-assed credence to their socially abnormal lyrics / warped sense of reality. In this context, who has been 'brainwashed'? Is that not a piss take? They wait until the end of the song to promote their message? The Tui slogan "Yeah Right!" comes to mind.Having said "the kind of **** thats on your TV" 5 times, they perhaps waited till the end before explaining the link, and offering a solution to any one who can't work it out for themselves. |

I'm simply reporting what i see on TV, and its not good, its consistant with what SOAD observe about American TV, and therefore i don't want TV near me!!!! To comment about such things with aggressive music, as SOAD do, may not be normal, because after all rose colored glasses are. If you cant see the violence that oozes from the idiot box, your desensitised. This is not good. Also note, almost every chick killed on TV shows is pretty. Whats the message there? TV is not a reflection on my "normal" life, otherwise i'd have asked Scotty to beam me up a long time ago. Hopefully TV is not a reflection of your normal life either. If it is, i'd be worried for you. As for "BOTA-IDRGAF", please put your aggression away. I'm hoping that you do not allways deal with differences of opinion with the expectation of an abusive argument, and the casual move toward making the issues personal. "you guys have....."??? Actually this guy has a really pleasant and full life, i'm out there so much i see too much, but rarely anything as ugly as 10 minutes of typical TV "action". People enjoy watching crap on TV in such great numbers that the market seems unsatisfyable..... such is life. TV is a game i have little desire to play. |

The news shows these horrific things, everyone is swallowing it up and they see it as being similar to the violent dirty porn you can get. The whole song is a big finger up to the news corperations for showing these stories about rape and violent crimes. The song is (imo) a rant on the media, specifically TV news, and how they show all this disgusting stuff and people just don't care because its under the guise of news. Also, I feel the parts with "everybody everybody...etc" are a sardonic view of the media's defense, saying well everyone does it, why is it so bad? If you listen to some of their other lyrics, it all about how stupid it is bombing iraq etc, and all govt conspiracies etc, one of the songs off the new album is all about how people that go to work in hollywood get treated badly. |

Nor are they particularly offensive - the lyric in discussion is there for shock/schlock value, and to make their consumers think they have some prescient insight into "the world out there, the reality", to make them feel schhpethial etc etc. Years ago it was long hair, smashing a guitar on stage, saying "f*ck", etc etc. They look like just like every other entertainer trying to create a niche and sell some songs. |
