659858 2008-04-18 11:00:00 My IT guy reloaded WinXP for me recently and didn't reload all my little toys like Registry Mechanic on the basis that he thinks there's no need to use any of them. Now don't know what to think but I miss seeing all those orphan links get removed. Do the benefits of a cleaner outweigh the risks if you create a restore point first? Ace3kiwi (13640)

Perhaps only if that restore point is to be actually restored again, depending if it also restores unwanted and harmful registry orphans. Most registry cleaners programs include a option to backup the registry prior to cleaning up, and also to fix/remove (or not) individual registry entries (which might provide specific descriptions for those entries). Hence implementing this approach would suggest that running a cleaner is beneficial even after creating a restore first - Then of course you can create another restore point (which should be more optimized) after cleaning up...
