2005-07-01 22:10:00 | 1.5MB You wanna try downloading a 50 MB email on dialup. Lets just say I wasn't impressed by the sender. In the end I went to the ISPs website to see what the email was about and then deleted it. (note: this particular person is no longer on my email list)

2005-07-02 00:46:00 | I arrived at a house to find a screaming match going on between 2 women, It turns out that the computer had a minor issue so I was rung, I couldn't get there for 2 hours, in the meantime the owner had rung her freind who insisted techs were a waste of money and she would sort it out. She did so by inserting the Windows CD and formatting the drive.Hence the huge blowout, Within seconds of arrival I was getting the blame for taking 2 hours to get there (on a Saturday arvo as well). I roared with laughter, told her the bill was going to be $120 minimum and took the machine away.

2005-07-02 03:10:00 | Jeez there's are alot of familiar stuff here I've think I've had all of them at one time or another Peoples stupidity and expectations never ceases to amaze me Re - Metlas' "Even had a another local tech ring and ask me to step him through a job, wasn't even upfront about it, I only clicked on when the owner in the background got snooty and asked they guy why she shouldn't fire him from tyhe job and get me in" I had the same thing a couple of months ago, the tech had got his customer to ring me from his shop I could hear him in the background and I also have Caller ID I played along and got the problem fixed, then delivered an account to him the next day He denied it strenuously till I told him I had caller ID He gave me cash on the spot along with embarrassed apologies. What a prat!!

2005-07-02 09:50:00 | I am sooo grateful (despite being blond) that I almost never have to resort to tech help. I'd rather tear my wavy locks out than admit defeat, but the one time I gave in and got 'home help' it was worth it to pay $ and see a man crawling around under the desk :-) All PC techs should be aware that they are required to save the world and that people place more blind faith in them than doctors!

2005-07-02 10:45:00 | what about the $75k tech (so he said) who spent 2 hrs & still couldnt fix an email problem. while i was there doing something else, they asked me - i got on outlook express & ticked 'leave a copy of messages on server' - problem solved, easy when they told me the problem. or the flash jetstream tech in suit & tie bumped me off a pc i was fixing viruses (an all girl office all downloading mp3s for their ipods) & after 10 min of frustration looked at me - i said - it's in safe mode, mate.... mind you i forgot to swap cable from modem to adsl after a test...but only for a minute when nothing happened.

2005-07-02 14:10:00 | Go out to fix a modem problem, described that it sometimes goes and sometimes dosent. So armed with a spare modem just in case. I find out what he called a modem most of us call the computer. He had a faulty PSU. He still called the computer a modem even after I took the side of the case off and pointed to the modem and explained that it was only one small component that made up the computer.

Most people seem to admit defeat where I work after about 2 minutes :groan: Either that or they keep trying something everyday for 2 weeks and then decide there is a problem.. aha but what is a pc tech to do when your clients are doctors? ;) For amusement, I like to sometimes discuss the fault and solution as if we had a sick patient. People often seem to expect you to fix software bugs (be they in drivers , the OS or the app) or break out the sodering iron and fix that ram module. I'd love to force some people to take a hour long intro programming course, so they might grasp how software works. ah still the most amusing thing I like to see is other techs who have never encountered a Mac before. |
