367485 2005-06-28 02:55:00 In which case "This is not for you" rings true, The band in no way promotes that sort of behaviour, they condemn it, They are a band who have a running commentry on society and what ails it.

They take what is accepted as norm and spread via the media, paint in black and white then display it to the listener.

But then, This band is not for you.

Or me.

367486 2005-06-28 02:58:00 Never bothered to listen to them before now but have just endured an hour of ear-bashing to see what they were like. The noise is bad enough and not something I want to suffer too much of so didn't get as far as checking out the lyrics at all.

Anyway, thanks Hamster, I have just regained 120MB+ on my hard drive after deleting everything I could find by System of a Down. Too bad if anyone else happens to miss them, they sound bloody awful to me.

367488 2005-06-28 03:08:00 Slayer? Who be they?

<two minutes later>

OMG, there are already half a dozen Slayer files on my beastie. Where the heck did they come from?

367489 2005-06-28 03:16:00 To the untrained ear they may sound like out of control heavy metal maniacs, ripping the world apart with the heaviest of metal, twin shred attack, and beating Satan’s own drums of war .

Lyrics also fester on the darker side, War, crime, murder, serial killers, a fair bit of Satan and other such nasties .

Pretty much on par with a B-grade horror movie .

But, To the trained ear . . . . . . . Well, as above . Muhahahaha .

That would have saved you an "earbashing"

367491 2005-06-28 03:35:00 Sound aside, the lyrics are crass. Anyone who supports a band that promotes 'choking chicks' is as sick as they are.

BOTA-IDRGAF (acronym translation pending.....)

Do you mean this line from Violent Pornography?

Its a violent pornagraphy
choking chicks and sodomy
the kind of **** thats on your TV

I think thats a commentry on TV content, not that i watch TV much, but i did endure TV exposure on Sunday evening where i saw a cop show where some hideously drunk fat chick passed out on a guy during sex thus causing his death and leading to an investigation as to what heavy object stopped his breathing, then another cop show where someone killed someone, and there was a big gun battle, another cop show where...(and so on)

Then there was the news.. whoa, they feature some bad **** on that!

It's fair to say that "its a violent pornagraphy, choking chicks and sodomy, the kind of **** thats on your TV" is an acurate observation of a typical nights TV viewing.

Its on your tv
Its on your tv
turn off your tv

can you say brainwashing
brainwashing

367493 2005-06-28 07:00:00 Do you mean this line from Violent Pornography?
It's not a "line", it's in the lyrics 5 times.

It's fair to say that "its a violent pornagraphy, choking chicks and sodomy, the kind of **** thats on your TV" is an acurate observation of a typical nights TV viewing.
No it's not. What channel are you watching? 'Choking chicks' in the context of violent pornography is not a typical nights TV viewing.

I have to disagree with your comment Metla that "They take what is accepted as norm and spread via the media, paint in black and white then display it to the listener." I don't accept 'choking chicks' as the norm. It is not normal 'behaviour'. Does anyone disagree with that?

The band have entertained the listener with the lines 'chocking chicks' 5 times and in the dying lyrics say 'turn off your TV' - this hardly promotes not to 'choke chicks'. It could be seen as a lame attempt to appease censors & lend some half-assed credence to their socially abnormal lyrics / warped sense of reality. In this context, who has been 'brainwashed'? Is that not a piss take? They wait until the end of the song to promote their message? The Tui slogan "Yeah Right!" comes to mind.

367494 2005-06-28 07:33:00 Like I said, its not for you, Its beyond you.

And it is a commentry on what good honest folk sit down and watch on TV, Murder and sexual crimes, Its on everynight, Its a form of porngraphy in that its sleaze that draws the viewer in, its the darkest of human behaviour and yet we sit though it, go out of our way to particpate by viewing the shows.

Get it?

No?

I knew you wouldn't, but never mind, You must be one of the brainwashed the song refers to.
