659975 2008-04-18 05:00:00 Hi guys,

I was mucking around the other day and I thought I'd look at how full my HDD was.

Now I KNOW that I got a 160GB HDD but when I looked in my computer it said it was "116 of 127Gb used"

Now as far as I can tell, when I set up my PC ~3yrs ago I had set it to the maximum partition size.

Any ideas where my extra space is?

659976 2008-04-18 05:18:00 You needed to have XP SP1 or SP2 to see more than 127GB. PaulD (232)
659977 2008-04-18 05:28:00 Yup got SP2.
I learnt about this in class (needing SP1+ to see more than 137Gb but like i said, I got SP1 so thats not the prob.

659978 2008-04-18 08:14:00 Go into disk management and see what unallocated space there is... The_End_Of_Reality (334)

659980 2008-04-18 14:59:00 hard drive sellers use "metric" GB they just divide the number of bytes by one billion instead of 1073741824 (one GiB (gigi byte)) your 127GiB is around 136365211648 bytes also pre loaded PCs sometimes have a recovery (hidden) partition which can show up in disk management but otherwise invisible. a "metric" 160Gb hard drive should be 149.01 GiB so you got about 22MiB missing or some calculator errors mounted up (subtle hard drive related pun) williamF (115)
659981 2008-04-18 20:13:00 yep thats right, but in this case he also need sp2. Crow1985 (6683)

So I check disk management and there's 21.06GB unallocated!!!
I swear that was never there the last time I checked!!

Man I'm useless...

But now that I've found it, I can only add it as another partition aye?
Or by some good grace of God can I add the 20GB onto my current partition...?

Yes, you can, software such as this: http://www.partition-manager.com/ allow you to modify and extend partitions. was only a week ago I used Paragon Partition Manager to extend my C partition, move and extend my storage partition and it done this all in Windows. PM me for more info.
