659449 2008-04-16 06:07:00 Avast home is also free and should be compatible with Vista Speedy Gonzales (78)
659450 2008-04-16 08:35:00 Both AVG and avast are very popular free programs; You can download them at snapfiles (www.snapfiles.com), and maybe check out the user reviews kahawai chaser (3545)
659451 2008-04-16 08:50:00 I installed AVG Free on my sister's laptop (Vista) and it works just fine. I have installed Avast on my own PC and am still trying to decide which one is the more user friendly. lakewoodlady (103)
659452 2008-04-16 09:16:00 Avast is far more user-friendly and has very good protection. beeswax34 (63)
659453 2008-04-16 10:55:00 Never used Avast...how is it compared to AVG in terms of startup times and using resources?....I already know it as = or > detection :p zahmad (8963)
659454 2008-04-16 11:01:00 Well Avast uses 7 scanners (email/web/P2P/IM/Network/Standard/Outlook)

At the mo the web shield is using the most (41,440, the others are using 3,156k (email), 5832k, 204k, 17,636k (I'm only using 5 of the 7, OL and P2P are disabled)

Altho you dont really need the web shield either.

So, you can disable 3 of the 7 (If you dont have Outlook, use P2P programs, or want to scan websites)

659455 2008-04-16 11:36:00 AVG for me on xp seems to be using a lot less! 1004k, 364k, 232k, & 0k....I'm on XP though....does that change things? zahmad (8963)
659456 2008-04-16 21:20:00 Dont know, I used to use AVG. But kept having probs.

Sometimes I had to quit it and restart it all the time.

Up to you what you want to use.

If you think AVG is better use it
