660815 2008-04-21 05:46:00 Need to replace one of my optical drives.Trouble is the 4 sata outlets on the motherboard are all in use by hard drives. Is it possible to get an adaptor so I can double up on one outlet to run a sata optical drive as well? Existing drives are IDE.And a lot of the new ones are going Sata.
Thanks.

Is there a problem getting an IDE one?

Asus or Pioneer are good brands.

660817 2008-04-21 05:57:00 OK. It's just that I was looking at the latest Pioneer DVR-212BK 18x SATA DVD Writer. Good review in PC User I think it was.
Any thoughts on this one which I think is IDE -Pioneer DVR-A12XLB 8x/18x Dual /Single 12x Ram Write.
It's just that the crowd I like dealing with have it for a reasonable price.

660818 2008-04-21 05:59:00 Use the sata for harddrives first and you can use one ide for two ide optical drives. Use a rounded ide cable, you can get them in different colours etc. as well. If you had a spare sata then sure then get a sata optical drive. Some good brands are: LG, Asus, Pioneer. memphis (2869)
660819 2008-04-21 06:06:00 You can get a card to add more SATA and/or more IDE ports

something like this
www.ascent.co.nz
or www.ascent.co.nz

A few companies make them. PIC or PCIe.

Thanks for that Bantu, didn't know about them.Would it be best to keep the hard drives on the motherboard sockets and connect the optical drive to a new card?
