| 660807 | 2008-04-21 04:25:00 | www.imagef1.net.nz I need to increase usable space on disk 0 volume 1.The Primary partition which contains Win XP I have already reduced the logical extension next to it with GParted. But this logical extension which has data on it is in the way of the unallotted free space. How can I solve this problem. Thank you, Antonia |

| 660809 | 2008-04-21 04:47:00 | If you really have to resize your partitions then I'd image the existing ones, then delete them and recreate them and image back your stuff. Using Ghost or Paragon or something. |

| 660811 | 2008-04-21 11:33:00 | You need to move the 'New Volume' partition up so that the free space is adjacent to the system partition where you need it. I thought Gparted could do that? I use Partition Magic which can do this quite easily. BTW, make sure you back up any data you want before you start playing around with partitions like this, things can go wrong! | Rod J (451) | ||

| 660813 | 2008-04-25 00:18:00 | This post is to thank you all and also to help others who may have a similar problem in the future and browse the archives. I found out that WinXP SP2 Disk management does not resize or move partitions, just creates and deletes them. Gparted did resize but it would not move for me. Partition Magic would have done everything quickly and simply as I found out from the evaluation version, but it will only perform the tasks if you have the full version, which is quite expensive. So I deleted the extended,logical partition (after backing up contents)which left only free space behind the primary partition. Gparted resized the primary partition. I then created a new extended,logical partition for data. I had done all this before reading the post of "a helpless Random" so don't know whether the Hirens Boot CD would have worked.
