660681 2008-04-20 23:57:00 Add acpi=force to your kernel boot string. Erayd (23)
660682 2008-04-21 00:02:00 OK...how?

660683 2008-04-21 00:20:00 Distros I am trying to install:

UBUNTU . iso
UBUNTU for AMD64s
UBUNTU LIVE CD
MEPIS LIVE+ INST .
KUBUNTU alt for i386 . iso
PCLinus OS2007 . iso (this I KNOW works! . . but not here!)

. . . and all I get is the "L" BSOD = Black Screen Of Death after I try the SAFE VID MODE or not . I tried the text start-up, live version and they are all going balck at a certain point .

Windows 98SE just came off this unit so I know it's a working unit . .

These have all at one time or another worked, although I am sure they aren't all gonna work here because of CPUs and such . . but ONE SHOULD WORK! .

I am trying to get it into an old COMPAQ PRESARIO 4540 . . . and I KNOW it worked before in one of these .

GACK! :waughh: :xmouth:

660684 2008-04-21 00:22:00 Add acpi=force to your kernel boot string.

I typed it in, and I still get the LBSOD..all activity stops and even the HDD light goes out.

660685 2008-04-21 00:35:00 Now I got as far as:

[ 55.897721] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 135980572 us)
_ <blinking cursor here>

..............and all activity stops.

660686 2008-04-21 01:17:00 How much ram does this PC have? Erayd (23)
660687 2008-04-21 01:19:00 ...don't really know..but it ran PCL b4...I have just taken this unit back and thought I'd dedicate it solely to "L-" things. SurferJoe46 (51)
660688 2008-04-21 01:57:00 Try booting with 'noapic' and 'acpi=off'. Can you find out how much ram it has? Erayd (23)
660689 2008-04-21 03:40:00 Try booting with 'noapic' and 'acpi=off'. Can you find out how much ram it has?

I am installing 98SE again to find out how much RAM it has...and other system resources.

Then back to the "L" word.
