| 369458 | 2005-07-05 12:00:00 | Smoking is a stupid abuse of health and a waste of money. End of story. All these posts about being "free", "independent'", "a free thinker'", "living in opposition to the fuddy-duddies" yoo hoo. What bollocks. OK, the 'healthy life-style police' posts I can understand. Some of it is over the top. But really is it so difficult to understand that fresh air is good for your lungs and fresh, clean, food is good for the gut? Aren't you opposers just another bunch of die-hards who want to keep being suckered in to what you're suckered in to and claim that you're asserting your individuality? I'm all for no drugs, good fresh clean food, limited alcohol, outdoor excercise, all that stuff. HTH...............m :2cents: |

Or are you suggesting your opinion should define how others choose to live? After all smokers and drinker aren't trying to convince you to do anything. Drug takers can do what they please, untill it affects others its not an issue and shouldn't be anyone bussiness., What someone eats or drinks affects no one, though their actions might its the person taking the action. |

Imagine a father who goes all out on the booze and drugs and says something like, "Hey, it's my life and I'll take the consequences.' No. Everybody else will. (as well). I'm not supporting a kind of 'health police' policy but it pisses me off when people diss attempts by various govt agencies to get us to live more healthily. Stirke a light up here in Northland I see cases of giant obesity every day with a bottle of coke in one hand and two pies and a fag in the other and I think that's sad. Just big fat round straightforward sad. My big thing is that some people seem to think they are expressing their individuality and freedom from opression by stuffing up their health, and that is to me both misguided and saddening. :2cents: |

The very condition of being a nicotine addict clouds rational judgement on the matter, and results in all the nonesensical self justification we are seeing. When you are an addict you do not have free choice and free will. I know, been there, done that, and fortunately survived. |

| 369462 | 2005-07-05 23:52:00 | So,Tell me, If I have 8 beers after work, a big feed of KFC and a couple of Jim Beams in the late evening, How does that affect any of you?, and on what grounds do you think you have a right to tell others how to live? If some slob wants to eat two pies and a coke then it has absolutly zero to do with you, If you think you have the right to tell people what to do, Then approach said fat guy and tell him your suffering because hes fat. The thick ear you get will do you good. |

| 369463 | 2005-07-06 00:26:00 | Haven't you ever heard of visual polution Metla? :) As long as other peoples habits don't affect me, or, the general good of society, including those who are defenceless like children, then yes, they can do whatever they like as you say. But, freedom of speech also entitles me to call people stupid if I like, or if the word stupid offends your sensitive nature, then I'll use 'unwise' instead. |

| 369465 | 2005-07-06 00:48:00 | the nicotine addicts are in a state of denial, whether consciously aware of being so or not. Nonsense. I for one am not denying anything. But to be technically correct, its not the nicotine that kills you, its all the other stuff. But again, so what. People are entitled to kill themselves if they want, and also fat people, if its not bothering them then why should it bother you? People disagree on lots of things, hunting, meat eating, driving SUVs, living in Auckland. Should we all be clones? |

| 369466 | 2005-07-06 00:58:00 | Well, they do say anything good in life is either illegal, immoral, or fattening Noooooooo - I can think of ONE good thing in life that is neither illegal, fattening or immoral - and yes, it begins with a S and ends with a X. OK, so it can be fattening in certain circumstances. LOL, ROFL sarel |

| 369467 | 2005-07-06 01:10:00 | I would go along with the "Makes you Ugly". Have a look at a woman who has been smoking and she has lost of vertical wrinkles on her upper lip. This can even be seen on TV. If they have the wrinkles you can pretty sure they are or were a regular smoker. BTW: I don't smoke. My teacher in Primary School gave me this lesson "In one year I saved enough money for this car". Hitting the pocket was motivation for me. |
