660826 2008-04-21 06:12:00 I have two 80Gb SATA hard drives set in a RAID array and now need to ugrade to two 500Gb hard drives.

How should I best manage this upgrade? Should I uninstall or delete the old drives first or just turn off the pc then swap the drives over and then power up again?

TIA, PeterE

660827 2008-04-21 06:18:00 I would keep all 4
raid the two 500's
80 for windows
80 for other or throw it in an external enclosure for backup.

but, up to you really.

Likes of True Image will transfer from the 80 to the 500 if you wanted to do that or there is free software on Seagate's site for doing that.

660828 2008-04-21 06:25:00 Thanks Batnu

I already have an 80Gb C/ drive for Windows, plus the RAID for editing video. Not sure if there is room for a total of five in the case.

660829 2008-04-21 06:26:00 put the older ones in storage for later use as required:-)
80 sure is not much for DV I can see why your updating them.

660830 2008-04-22 04:40:00 I bought my 80Gb drives 5-years ago for $252.00 each and now these 500Gb cost me $158.43 each from the same supplier!

I still need guidance on how to manage this upgrade, please, someone.

PeterE.
