2008-04-21 04:50:00 | If its that stuffed, pull the drive out, back up data then do a fresh install/recovery. | pctek (84) | |
2008-04-21 04:52:00 | Two things I'd do - plug the HDD into another machine and do a virus scan over the top of the HDD. Also do a chkdsk /r, off the recovery console on the XP setup CD. Is the XP CD you have the same version as the installed XP?

2008-04-21 05:00:00 | try booting windows into safe mode off a memory key instead. You will need to create an ISO of the windows disk to do this, unless you download windows from the internet..... | techflame23 (77) | |
2008-04-21 05:22:00 | Try accessing the drive though a copy of Bart PE (www.nu2.nu) or some other CD-based GUI. | jwil1 (65) | |
2008-04-21 23:07:00 | wratterus suggestion to do a chkdsk /r, off the recovery console on the XP setup CD worked! chkdsk found & fixed one or more errors was able to load into safe mode; and then into normal mode try running sfc now

2008-04-22 05:46:00 | Good to hear! Do virus scan too, use the Eset online scanner if you haven't already got an Eset product installed. www.eset.com

2008-04-22 06:49:00 | Now would be a very good time to back up every important file/photo/emails etc to CD or DVD in case it goes pear-shaped again. If you had hard drive errors, it could indicate a failing drive. | Jen (38) | |
