660254 2008-04-19 10:54:00 Anyone have any ideas as to why my PS/2 mouse would give a "unable to start" error after a reboot.

Often I find that I have to reboot straight after the initial morning start up because the mouse doesn't work, usually it works fine after the reboot, but if I reboot again at any time during the day it can stop working again causing me to resort to plugging in my USB mouse.

I would prefer to get the PS/2 working again because I use a mouse/keyboard/screen switcher between 2 computers. I have tried removing the switcher to make sure that wasn't the problem... it wasn't... problem still happens regardless of if the mouse is plugged into the switcher first, or directly into the mouse plug.

660255 2008-04-19 11:01:00 A PS2 connection should not be plugged/unplugged while the system is up or the results may be unpredictable. Serial mice and USB mice are happy to be plugged in or out, not PS2 most times. R2x1 (4628)

660257 2008-04-19 23:09:00 Have you tried another PS2 mouse to determine if its the Mouse or the motherboard / Software causing the problem.

You mention a switcher between two PC's which is fine,( got a KMV and electronic switch myself ) If the mouse stops working on both setups, then I would suspect the mouse is faulty.

660258 2008-04-24 03:06:00 I've discovered that when ever the PS/2 mouse doesn't work I can do a system restore back to a restore point I made the other day and the mouse starts working.

So could this be a registry issue?

BTW. When the mouse isn't working, it shows an error of "could not start".
