660085 2008-04-19 01:44:00 Hi
Previously, I've frequently accessed the website of the BBC (at www.bbc.co.uk/) but over the last few weeks have been totally unable to access it. I use Firefox XP but have the same problem with another machine running IE/Win XP. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or can anyone identify where the problem might be?
Thanks

660086 2008-04-19 01:46:00 works fine for me with firefox or ie Bantu (52)
660087 2008-04-19 02:13:00 Is there an error message displayed, that is the same for both computers? What is the message, if any? If so, then it might give an idea, particularly if similar changes (either directly or inadvertently) have been made to both computers... And are both networked? kahawai chaser (3545)
660088 2008-04-19 02:20:00 Hi
The Firefox message is the usual 'Firefox can't find the server at www.bbc.co.uk.'. Both machines are networked and use the same ADSL connection. The only change I can think that has been made to both PCs recently is the download/installation of an update to Acrobat - but I wouldn't have thought this would have been related to the website problem. I don't have any problems accessing other web-sites.Thanks

660089 2008-04-19 02:34:00 I'm afraid I don't know much about network issue's if it is that (others on this forum certainly do). In the mean time try the simple ping and trace route tests, using the command prompts from here (www.mediacollege.com)... (do one for the bbc site and another site that works). Results might give a clue, e.g as a guess your isp may have changed or using other servers (happened to me with kiwi online - where sometimes they use orcon's servers)... kahawai chaser (3545)
660090 2008-04-19 02:43:00 Hi
Tried the ping test - but fine for both the BBC website and another site!
Cheers

660091 2008-04-19 03:13:00 Maybe review this similar issue (mybroadband.co.za), but the issue was basically fixed with WinSock XP fix (www.snapfiles.com). Also download ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and run before hand (do back up the registry when it asks)… kahawai chaser (3545)

Sorry for off-topic, but I see alot of people referring to their OS 10.xxxxxx systems as OS X 10.xxxxxxxxx, is it common to do this? I always though the 'X' in OS X stood for the 10, so you just call it OS X.4.11 or something? or is the X there just for looks, much like the computer it is installed on.
