661532 2008-04-23 01:59:00 Hi all,

Early in June my antivirus is up for renewal and I AM going to use Nortons regardless of it's lack of popularity in this forum

The question is :-
does the enclosed list give any body in here and prepared to risk derision, an answer - is the Norton's 360 complete setup,or the new mid way antivirus shown at $30 cheaper worth either spending on,or not justified
herewith is a copy of the site etc

661533 2008-04-23 02:04:00 Whichever one's cheaper.

It would be better to put your money somewhere else though (Eset Nod32 - same price IIRC) :)

661534 2008-04-23 02:07:00 Norton 360 would probably be better than the other one.

Even tho, I dont use either

Altho, I wouldnt really bother with either.

Since there are free alternatives that do the same thing

But its up to you, its your money, not ours

661535 2008-04-23 02:22:00 I have removed both form customers PC's because BOTH will cause problems sooner or later, stop the internet, email, miss viruses, and slow the PC.

Go with what ever is cheaper if you're positive you want Nortons - that way WHEN it does play up at least it wont be so much of a waste of money than the expensive one.

I AM going to use Nortons regardless of it's lack of popularity in this forum Its not just this forum ,its world wide.

661536 2008-04-23 02:37:00 Hi Wainui tech and Speedy G,

Ouch that made me sit up- which justifies my membership of F1 :nerd:
,
Speedy G- how come you have never been attacked by viruses?
I have a very healthy respect for your ability so I am open to be re educated-it is just that I have never had any virus get past Nortons and being so ancient I thought I should be loyal- BUT money is a problem-so I am here to learn

wainuitech- is eset as good as any ?
Regardless of Speedy's reply to above I will not take the risk and not have an antivirus program, so bearing on that should the next be Eset and Nod 32 apparently, as per the blurb in their site
an opinion from both of you will be welcome

661537 2008-04-23 02:39:00 Yea the only reason there are people using Nortons is because pretty much any brand name PC/notebook you buy comes with a 3 month trial of it so people just stick with it. CYaBro (73)
661538 2008-04-23 02:40:00 If your mechanic tells you your brake linings are worn and should be changed do you ignore him?

We don't like Nortons because we have seen the results.

Its not very effective, screenshots available to prove that.
It can take Windows out with it if it gets a problem. I've seen that twice.

Its a resource hog.

Its not because we have some hate thing with Symantec.

Whatever you do though, you NEED separate anti-spyware protection.

661539 2008-04-23 02:43:00 Eset (NOD32) is the best IMO DeSade (984)
661540 2008-04-23 02:44:00 You are going to regret your decision.

Look at these pics - link (www.imagef1.net.nz) link (www.imagef1.net.nz)

Nortons 2008, fully updated, saying everything is sweet.

The PC was completely infected. Home page hijack, desktop background hijack...

NOD32 found and removed about 35 virus threats. Thats not a one off thing - I see it all the time.

Refer to this (pressf1.co.nz) thread.

It's not an anti Norton thing on this forum, as Waiuni said, its worldwide. People don't like it because it's crap software. There are plenty of people on this forum who are PC techs, myself inculded, who daily see the havoc nortons can cause with Windows.

What pctek said about would you ignore your mechanic when he said your brake linings are worn is a perfect example. Someone who has read all we have said and still purchases Nortons should have his/her head examined, just quietly. ( No offense to anyone who does use nortons, just to people who renew it after looking at this type of information.)

Get Eset Smart Security.

661541 2008-04-23 02:50:00 Yup, Norton products = slow, not protected, and unstable PC.

Go for NOD32, or Kaspersky (my personal favourite)
