2008-04-21 08:53:00 | Question: Can anyone tell me how to restore the embedded graphics in my email. I have XP-SP2 and use Eudora-Pro for email and Firefox as a browser. Any emails I receive with embedded graphics show a placeholder (small box with a red cross) instead of the picture. In addition I can't open any attachments from within the email because a warning window pops up telling me that the file may contain programs or macros and showing me the file location has been changed by the addition of the symbols %20 in two parts of the filepath. For example: ..\Program%20Files\qualcomm\eudora%20pro\attach\ .. I have observed exactly the same effects when I use Outlook Express. The attachment has not been disabled and I can navigate to the file location and open it from there. Everything has been working perfectly normally until a few weeks ago. I suspect the problem has been caused by downloading an "update" of one of my security programs but I am unable to find the culprit. I am on ADSL broadband and use: Zone AlarmPro for Firewall Avast Anti Virus prog Sunbelt-Counterspy Spybot-SD Adaware The first three are active all the time, the last two programs I use periodically. All software is fully functional and up to date. I would appreciate some help as this problem has me stumped and drives me up the wall. - Peter

Apple QuickTime® is a free download. We recommend using Apple QuickTime® version 4 or higher. |

2008-04-22 13:34:00 | Thanks very much for your reply Safari. The links to Eudora Forum were quite useful. I downloaded a fresh copy of Quicktime and reinstalled it. Unfortunately there was no change. I went through IE v7 with a fine toothcomb and set it to display graphics etc. Still no results from that either. I will try follow some more links from the eudora forum. There may be some other leads I haven't checked yet. Also the problem with the email attachments remains. Nothing changed. Any other suggestions Perhaps? I appreciate your help pressf1.pcworld.co.nz :thanks

2008-04-22 14:38:00 | Are they linked pictures? Sometimes does that if the pics aren't available no more. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | |
2008-04-25 02:25:00 | No, the pictures are not linked. There may be a single one or several in an email message, such as a newsletter with illustrations. I am fairly well convinced that this is something to do with a corruption in IE7. After installing the latest version of Quickview and disabling the MS viewer (seems to be build into IE) I 've got some sort of improvement, although it's not the same as before this trouble started. Next project is to get rid of IE7 and reinstall a fresh copy. Wish me luck on that one. Cheers
