Prime Minister Chirac has officially raised the French terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide".

There are only two higher alert levels in France:

"Surrender " and "Collaborate".

The rise in alert level was not signaled in advance through normal military communication channels, but was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France's white flag factory - effectively crippling their military machine and throwing their pre-emptive "first strike" defence strategy into disarray.

372439 2005-07-15 04:45:00 Being the longest running traditional enemy of Britain, the French have never forgiven the Brits for seizing and or destroying their ships during WWII to prevent them being surrendered to the Germans. Several ships were sunk at Oran, and about 1500 Frenchies killed by British fire.

The Brits also shot up the Vichy French in Syria, there's a good description of this at the beginning of John Masters' second autobiography "The Road Past Mandalay".

Edit: can't get your link to work, Billy.

372441 2005-07-15 05:42:00 China has announced that it has started a new industry, that of making cheap chrome-plated rearview mirrors for all the French Military vehicles .

China expects to balance it's total budget for the next 50 years from proceeds of the sales to France .

372444 2005-07-15 08:55:00 Quote from the NZ Herald about people in France stooping to remember the people killed in the London bombings: In Paris, President Jacques Chirac's annual Bastille day television address was put back so the French could mark the moment. Chirac stood silent on the steps of the Elysee Palace.

Do they think we have forgotten about the terrorists they sent over here 20 years ago to bomb the Rainbow Warrier?

Don't forget the great Bonaparte was French (Corsican by birth, but an establishment Frenchman). He conquered more territory than anyone else after him, tried to create a common European state, currency and market (which ironically, is what they are striving for now). The devilish British put paid to that (and still do so now...).
