| 371769 | 2005-07-13 06:57:00 | Am I hallucinating or what? Why is there a second mouse on every picture (except the last)? I could never imagine such a big machine actually moves! This is really something eye-opener for me! Cheers :) |

| 371774 | 2005-07-13 11:06:00 | By co-incidence, today's Otago Daily Times shows part of what will be NZ's largest excavator - when reassembled at Oceania Gold's Macraes mine in East Otago. This part is 47 tonnes, but it's only a section of the track for the $18 million Hitachi. Full weight is 350 tonnes. Power is a 1900hp 16 cylinder engine using about 230 litres of fuel per hour. The bucket is 22 cubic metres. I found the size hard to comprehend until I compared it with my family's elderly 9.5 tonne Priestman Mustang digger - and realised it's more than 36 times bigger. Wouldn't want the fuel bill, but it shows there's still gold in them thar hills... |
