371573 2005-07-12 10:09:00 My Dad is wanting a new computer, and he wants to be able to have 1 or 2 other computers to be able to access programs/information off it.

E.g. Loading ACT on one of the secondary computers will load all the data that is on the main computer.

As these computers will be business ones, they dont need much grunt, except for the main one perhaps, if the other computers are going to be working from it somehow?

I am not sure how any of this will work. I know next to nothing about servers, and how to set them up to run programs off them, so help is appreciated. I guess we will just get a guy in.

Will we need Windows Server or something on all 2/3 computers?

Where would you recommend to buy these business computers? Reliablity/support comes first, and price is sorta important.

Thanks

371575 2005-07-12 11:17:00 I'm not sure, whatever usually happens on a server. I guess that? mejobloggs (264)
371576 2005-07-12 11:46:00 if you need a server you will be better off going to an IT company and get them to do the whole show. there is no point in putting a buisneess at risk by playing around with the setup. do it once, do it right.

also support and backups are critical.

What would you use for a backup system. Just an external hard drive, or what?

371578 2005-07-12 12:09:00 no idea. i would suspect it depends on the needs. external HD, tape drive, zip disks?? tweak'e (69)
