371343 2005-07-11 13:23:00 This (www.nzherald.co.nz) is the kid that found a way to break into Telecom Mobile's voice-mail system, and accessed the voice-mail of various people including the Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard.

The article mentions that he is "smart" - but he got caught...

You are probably right.

You never know - the smart ones may have been accessing it all this time without getting caught, and this careless kid comes and exposes it and ruins the party.

Cheers :)My bet is that he simply found the overide codes left in the system, and dialed his way in with a common cellphone . His mistake would have been to have the phone in his name .

Now Reuben is accused of exposing flaws in Telecom's cellphone and landline message

With many things we want to be secure, this sort of thing is invited . It is only through trying to break something that its weaknesses can be found . This is why things are beta tested . . . . . . . .

There are lots of mobile phone system exploits floating around. Remember Paris Hilton and her phone? It has happened in the US, Canada and and Europe if I can remember vaguely. This kid got it off the net. Telecom maybe using the same/similar system lots of other Telecoms use.
