A very "proper" associate then gave me a proper laptop bag with a designer name and flaps for papers, power leads and stuff. The latter is bloody awful, poncy, uncomfoftable, and reaks of the same mentality that may have once said cellphones should be big so everyone can see them being used. Flaptop, power lead, mouse, and whatever else i need fit perfectly into the homemade shoulder bag. It doesnt attract the eyes of thieves, and it has the added bonus of being something that was handmade for me by someone i have a lot of time for. :D |

Years ago, when I was faced with a mob of unexpected visitors to feed in the countryside, I bemoaned that I couldn't find the potato masher. Mr Laura went quietly outside & returned soon after with a wonderfully efficient version he'd just created in the shed from - would you believe - NO. 8 WIRE. It did the job perfectly. It had several aftermaths which amused me. One friend who saw - but never used - it, bought me a new commercial one, obviously feeling sorry for me. But another friend, who hinted she'd broken hers, was obviously disappointed when I gave her that. She'd wanted one of his home-made versions... The final kudos came when Otago Museum ran a contest to find unusual things - old & new - made from No. 8 wire for an exhibition. So I entered it without telling him. My potato masher was one of those chosen. It sat in a glass case for weeks & I still have the fancy label. It still works better than any commercial model I've seen. And it has the bonus of being made just for me... |
