371544 2005-07-12 11:42:00 When did I say that?

I have had plenty of hiccups, some where even my fault  , But i have moved hell and high water to make sure any issues were/are rectified.

My method is to give customers the sort of service I would expect, and I have high standards, even if people don't buy off me (and for some reason most who are shopping around tend to buy off me) I would hope they leave a bit better informed about the purchase they are about to make.

Sales pitch over.

Muhahahaha.

371545 2005-07-12 11:51:00 Meh, I think the level of complaints would have to do with how good their service is, if they made sure people were sorted their would be nothing to complain about.
I apologise Metla, with that statement I was led to believe you were talking about yourself, my mistake..

371546 2005-07-12 11:55:00 You can garentee that if any of my customers are compelled to post complaints on the internet then I have dropped the ball.

I would be mortified to discover any of them were forced into such a prediciment.

371547 2005-07-12 13:55:00 Oh I hate ringing up Dell for a simple warranty job on say a hard drive or power supply. They go through all the questions and the English is so dodgy you end up with odd delivery addresses (although thankfully as long as it has Dunedin spelt correctly it so how arrives).

I don't like it when they do that to forums - on places such as Orcon or HP's forums you find out the real problems and now and then solutions.

I like to deal with NZ firms such as Insite - you just tell them something has failed and you get a forward replacement usually. I also like PCs that use standard cases and parts, so when they are out of warranty it is cheap and quick to replace a part. Annoying machines are old iMacs and eMacs, out of Applecare - though Apple forums are good (most of the time Apple just produce glossy brochures rather than manuals).

Keep things simple.

371548 2005-07-12 20:58:00 Hah, I knew someone would bring up dodgy local shops. True, you need to find a good, reliable shop. I guess it's like car dealers. But like Metla says, its not so much that you'll never have a faulty item or a screwup, but what sort of service you can expect from the shop when it happens.

I hate it when I see people picking something because they got a pamphlet in the mail or found stuff on Pricespy and it's "cheap". Much better to talk to others and see who they recommend or don't recommend. Can be hard to know who to choose but there's always forums like this to get opinions on places.

And leaving out PC Co, who let his customer service lapse, a lot of smaller shops probably go broke because they can't get enough custom due to peole going to Noel Leemings and The Warehouse and buying these things.

371549 2005-07-13 05:53:00 What people are overlooking is that all PC builders are concerned with is matching the price , or bettering it, of all the other manufacturers.
An extra cheap PC is just a pile of rubbish.
Anyone can make a good PC if he can find someone who doesn't think a cheap PC is better.

Of course the cheap PC is probably all the average buyer NEEDS.
There is a huge difference between WANTS and NEEDS.

Sorry - ALL PC builders? Or are you referring to large companies such as Dell? Metla is a PC builder. I'm sure he has other concerns apart from price.
And no, we don't NEED a cheap PC. We need an adequately specced quality PC.
We want a super high specced overkill PC.

surely you ain't putting the small pc assemblers up on a pederstall next to god are you.
The only reason small PC builder are in buisness, is to make MONEY. Not to make sure people don't buy a Dell or Apple, it is not a public service, behind every nice smile and advice, money is the goal.
The above statement goes for large company's as well

371552 2005-07-13 11:18:00 The small local PC business reigns supreme as far as I'm concerned. If I get good value components and advice in areas that I'm vague about, then I'll always go back. Heck, my favourite supplier got a dozen beer FROM me when I spent around a thou! Greg (193)
