371438 2005-07-12 11:44:00 I think Linux users should get their own forum if they are going to post so much, it is of no interest to the majority of members and it is getting distracting with the number of them appearing recently.Given that M$ is now following in the *nix path of having a root user.. of sorts, i think that Linux suddenly becomes more relevant, even to windows users!

M$, or the users of M$ products have the chance to learn from those of us allready down the path of a system with a "root" user.

371440 2005-07-12 11:55:00 i think its a good idea that finally they are putting a root type sytem in. MS have finally learnt that you need to protect people from themselves ;)

BUT knowing MS style they will simply have it so the user is logged in as root by default. this will make it no better than what they have now.

I doubt if they would do that.
I suspect they will follow the example of Apple where OS X root is disabled by default.
There is actually no reason to login to root on OS X normally.

371442 2005-07-12 12:06:00 don't be to sure. MS likes to make things as easy to use as possible with total disregaurd for sicurity. its been proven time and time again.

MS is not alone, even windows like nix OS's have been setting it up so the user is logged in as root by default. talk about copying windows faults and all.

You've never delved into the belly of the beast and issued a few commands via the shell in OSX?
