2008-04-22 04:00:00 | I have a digitising tablet that is currently connected to my old PC. The tablet has a data connection to a 25 pin female connector, which also has a power supply point (low voltage) on it. A male 25 pin connector fits into the female one and its cable leads to a 9 pin female connector that plugs into the back of the PC. (serial port?) I want to use the digitiser on my new PC which requires a USB input. Can someone please advise how to achieve this. All help much appreciated. KB.

2008-04-22 04:11:00 | Get a COM (short for Communications port) to USB Adaptor. Like this from DSE (www.dse.co.nz)

2008-04-22 21:52:00 | Had a look at DSE site. The adaptor shown did not appear to have the right connection. I need USB at one end of cable and a 25 pin male at the other end. KB. | kbcad (1025) | |
2008-04-22 22:28:00 | You can get gender changers at DSE $10 (www.dse.co.nz). | jwil1 (65) | |
2008-04-22 22:46:00 | EDIT: Are you sure it's 25-pin? Serial ports normally have 9 pins Do a google image search and find an image that matches the port on your device.

2008-04-24 06:04:00 | Normal ("RS232") serial connectors are 25-pin. :D It's only because IBM didn't have room for 2 25-pin connectors on one of their backplane plates that they started using the 9-pin ones. :( Most USB to serial converters have a 9-pin plug on the RS232 side. Your present 25M to 9F adapter cable will fit that. If you don't like the extra cable length, you could use a 25M to 9F adapter plug (be careful when selecting one of these: 25F to 9M ones are available, too). The digitiser will "probably" work on the USB to serial adapter. ;)
