372408 2005-07-15 00:19:00 Morning,

Just read the post below regarding kids carrying weapons at school and complete lack of discipline at school etc and it got me thinking again.

Perhaps im way off line or just a plain male chauvinistic pig (either one's fine by me) but has anybody ever considered that the feminist movement (ie: women working, equality etc, trying to get the same deal as men) has significantly contributed to the collapse of society.

My main argument for this comes from the fact that in the "old days" men worked and women stayed at home to look after the kids and cook and clean. Now days both parents work and generally leave the kids to be babysat or use a nanny and thats generally soon after they are weaned, sometimes before. Is it possible that this lack of parenting causes kids to lack the fundamental disciplines and basics of life (ie: Babysitters and nannies cant discipline and teach kids like parents can). Surely this lack of discipline must have an impact on kids behaviour which is then carried through to school and then into future life.

Pure speculation i know, but I continually get told about what kids are up to in school and see it for myself on the street, absolutely no respect for adults, especially the elderly and just general unacceptable behaviour. Behaviour like that back in the day would see you ostracised and more often than not a kick up the ass until you pulled your head in, now days it is accepted and sometimes applauded.

Then again it may just be coinsidence that the rise of the feminism and the bad behavior/rise in crime is directly related but it certainly gets you thinking.

And before you ask, no i'm not a parent so i probably have no idea what im talking about but isn't freedom of speech brilliant?

It's not that a woman's place is in the home, but that a mother's place is in the home .

Unfortunately, a "home" costs half a million bucks, so they have to work .
Whatever happened to good old Family Benefit? I don't qualify coz I . . . um . . earn too much .
Countless banks have turned me down coz I . . um . . don't earn enough .

(If I ruled the world . . . )

Even in slums like mine (South Jaffa) you can't get a house for less than a quarter of a million bucks .
Hence, still renting at 40 .

372410 2005-07-15 00:38:00 well in the OLD days, the kids (exspecially sons) used to out and work along side their farther out in the paddocks.
then came the time when the farther worked 9-5 in the factory and the kids where left at home with mom or went to school.
now its mom and dad work 9-5 and the kids cared by the school and no-one when they get home.

now seeing you brought Feminism into it......have you noticed the general change over the last few decades, woman may be getting equal rights but they are also picking up all the bad habbits of men (smoking, drugs, violence, jail). instead of one parent with bad habits the kids now have both parents with bad habits, it dosn't take much to guess what the kids are going to do.

naturally the schools are left to be the baby sitter, a role they are not designed to play.

372411 2005-07-15 00:42:00 Imo its single mothers and parents that sit on the dole that are to blame for a fair bit of it.

Kids need a father figure, and one that can lead the family, not sit on his backside eating 2 pies and a coke moaning about how others have it better.

372412 2005-07-15 00:44:00 ya forgetting that half the mothers are probably on the dpb or some other benefit....
My partner and I find it very hard to juggle work and family life, I'm just lucky I have a understanding boss, at the moment it's school holidays, so i'm at home during the day and go to work at night instead...

That may well be a fact but couldn't this be due to the same thing? There is no excuse for being on the dole. The fact is if these dole bludgers had been taught the basics when they were kids they wouldn't be in that situation. Perhaps the older members could enlighten us as to what decade "dole bludging" really started? Ie: When was it seen as 'acceptable' to be on the dole. Currently being on the dole is an accepted part of society, why????

I dont believe it is accepted, been on the dole once for 6 weeks and almost went into a state of depression..
I know people my age that were brought up in wealthy families that choose not to work and be on the dole, it's a matter of choice.. end of story...

Of course its accepted, the fact that it exists the way it is proves so. If it was unacceptable dont you think New Zealanders would have kicked up enough stink to stop it?
