371965 2005-07-14 03:37:00 Greetings all

We have an old Juno coal fire, which regularly belchs smoke into our living room and are looking to replace it, we were told there are subsidies available if we go with a clean air / low emmision fire as the replacement, but I can't find any info about these subsidies (apart from the Christchurch ones ) I am in Invercargill, do these subsidies exist down here in the deep south or is it just a christchurch thing

Cheers
Nigel

371967 2005-07-14 05:35:00 I just phoned the Invercargill City Council which had vaguely hear of this but had no info. There is/was a scheme for subsidised insulation for older houses and I know of one Invercargill family who used it. Income tested.

Post back what you find please.

371969 2005-07-14 08:29:00 Electricity retail companies?

I think one those offered free/subsidised insulation to a limited number of households in this area a year or so ago, but don't remember how one qualified.

It would've been either TrustPower or Contact Energy, I think.

371970 2005-07-14 08:34:00 I don't think a electricity supplier will want to encourage solid fuel heating.

Look on the MFE site for, clean air, healthy homes project, energy efficiency.

371971 2005-07-15 04:23:00 We have a lot of old 1940's and 1930's houses here in Hemet from the old movie star days when this was a haven for tuberculosis clinics (Idyllwyld) and recluse living for Hollywood drunks to dry out (W . C . Fields, Mickey Rooney, and the MGM people) . Therefore some of these places were built 'way before much idea to insulation or heating was considered .

A very dear friend of mine and his wife have one of these "palaces" and the Gas Company and the Electric Companies gave it an energy revue .

Now they have had all their windows replaced, a new gas heater, air conditioner, front and rear doors and blown-in insulation in the ceiling . They also got a new cook stove/oven combination and a garbage disposal .

Free . :waughh: :waughh: :waughh:

The utilities here have a government forced requirement to make these changes to lower the utility bills for the owners of these older or any homes . They are very aggressive and seem to have nothing but money to spent making life easier and less expensive for the utility users .

371974 2005-07-16 07:10:00 Actually, it appears to be a national thing...the EPA has set into motion certain guidelines to reduce the US's dependencies on foreign oil and energy..and this is some of the fallout. SurferJoe46 (51)
