The beast weighs 45,500 tons and is over 100 metres high.

371767 2005-07-13 06:15:00 Yep, my Economics teacher Mr Douce showed me one of them. A top speed of a whopping 0.33 km/h. Or mph.

That's what I call a nice monster...

371769 2005-07-13 06:57:00 Am I hallucinating or what? Why is there a second mouse on every picture (except the last)? I could never imagine such a big machine actually moves! This is really something eye-opener for me!

Cheers :)

371771 2005-07-13 07:51:00 Either way, the dozer wasn't left in the way and run over, its wedged in what looks like a face ripper rather then a drive cog.

I would say it has fall down ther mine face and been snagged by the big mofo of a machine.

371774 2005-07-13 11:06:00 By co-incidence, today's Otago Daily Times shows part of what will be NZ's largest excavator - when reassembled at Oceania Gold's Macraes mine in East Otago.

This part is 47 tonnes, but it's only a section of the track for the $18 million Hitachi. Full weight is 350 tonnes.
Power is a 1900hp 16 cylinder engine using about 230 litres of fuel per hour. The bucket is 22 cubic metres.
I found the size hard to comprehend until I compared it with my family's elderly 9.5 tonne Priestman Mustang digger - and realised it's more than 36 times bigger.

Wouldn't want the fuel bill, but it shows there's still gold in them thar hills...

371775 2005-07-13 21:35:00 But the first photo shows the giant in an open field, crossing a road. (Why did the coal chomper cross the road?) So, why should the maw be in operation to pick up the bulldozer? Or even be lowered to do so? Nicky (112)
