| 662151 | 2008-04-24 10:49:00 | Welcome to the long weekend I'm thinking about buying a Pavilion notebook but am finding it difficult to discover whether any fault that might manifest itself during the warranty period would be fixed in NZ or sent out of the country. Sales staff in various stores seem a bit vague about it, and I'm drawing a blank on the HP NZ website (p'raps my search skills need refining!). So, does anyone know? I'm not "getting at" HP by the way. Thanks in advance PS - then there's the question of what happens after the warranty expires! |

The official place within the Auckland area that us retailers send to is Visual Group that handle HP repairs under warranty. Very rarely have I seen they need to get something from overseas, but it does happen every now and then when they need a motherboard or something in which case they inform you directly. After the warranty period I believe you can still take the laptop to Visual Group, but you may choose a cheaper/closer to home repair agent since they'll do the same job, just the parts they use will differ but ofcourse you'll save $$$ by not paying for 'genuine' parts. Ofcourse you can also talk to your retailer after warranty is up if you believe you have grounds under the CGA to have them take care of the issue, as normal, etc. |

After the warranty Visual Group can advice of the amount to repair, they usually charge an inspection Fee, but at least you would know if its worth while getting repaired. |

| 662156 | 2008-04-24 21:37:00 | Well it sounds like HP have a good repair service, but why should this be a major concern when buying a computer? I have only had one experience of buying a computer from HP. Overpriced,(probably to cover warranty) Propriety motherboard! No OS CD supplied, Pokey half size case. Smallish hard drive, half of which was used to back up OS and all the other rubbish pre loaded.. But it did work after I removed the HD and replaced it with another one. I loved it so much I sold it after a couple of weeks for about half of what I paid for it. Two names to steer well clear of when buying a computer. HP and Dell. |

| 662157 | 2008-04-25 04:08:00 | Um, isn't it your fault for buying a laptop whose case wasn't big enough for you and the drive was too small for being useful? You get what you pay for. There are other models you can choose from. |

| 662159 | 2008-04-26 06:13:00 | Personally, I love Dell's computers ever since they bought alienware. They used to suck but now they are good. (Probably because they use Alienware parts now.) The only problem is the preinstalled software, but they provide you with an OS cd and you can use that to reinstall your OS immediately, thus getting rid of all the junk. |

| 662160 | 2008-04-26 07:25:00 | I have had a few negative experiences with Visual Group. Relating to other peoples repair hassles, not my own as HP is not anywhere near the top of my list of "brands" to buy. I was offered a job there once too which I declined after I found out what the procedure for motherboard RMAs was. |
