663211 2008-04-28 02:49:00 Hey guys,

I have recently upgraded to Vista Home Premium and am trying to work thru the bugs one by one. My problem is this... I have a Philips FWM589/30 Stereo that has a USB port to connect to my PC. This worked great when I was running XP Home, but now that I have Vista, it's buggered!! I've been doing some searching on the net and I think the problem is simply, Philips havn't made any drivers for this device to run on Vista.

My question is, if there is anybody else out there that has had the same problem, is there an alternative driver that might work with this system? Or does anybody know if and when Philips will bring a driver out for this system?

I can run it via the AUX port, but it has USB on it so I'd like to use it!! Why wouldn't I??

Any help would be great.
Cheers.

You would be right. Everything works with XP including your Philips Stereo, possibly going back to XP might cause you a bit less stress. Even Dell is selling Vista/XP Licenses for that reason.

663213 2008-04-28 02:55:00 Yep, unfortunately if theres no drivers, theres nothing you can do. Did you do a clean install or an upgrade to Vista?

I assume you've contacted Philips and requested a driver?

663214 2008-04-28 02:57:00 A clean install. It's not looking good is it? springa886 (10558)
663215 2008-04-28 03:17:00 Nope, dont think it'll work in Vista. Unless Phillips make a driver for it Speedy Gonzales (78)

Umm, the AUX port is for sound input from the PC isnt it, the USB port is for connection to a music library on the PC hard drive or a USB flash drive is it not. I'm confused as to why you need a driver as it is the stereo that connects to the PC......or do I have it wrong?

Ummm, all I know is that when I plug the USB in to my PC and run the install file on the CD that came with it, it tells me to connect the USB cable and turn the stereo on. After I do that, I get an error msg saying:

Please verify the following
- make sure you have administrator rights on this computer (which I do, and I run the installer as an admin)
- Turn on the Philips Audio Set and select PC-Link (which is already done, but I've tried switching it off and on again too)

- Connect USB cable or if USB cable is already connected pull and reinsert.

After this is done press OK or CANCEL to abort installation.

When I try and press OK, the msg dissapears and then pops back up everytime!

And the USB port on the stereo is one of those square USB ports, like the printer ones (sorry, not sure what they're called.)
